We are an ad-free, independently published bimonthly print magazine based in Portland, Maine. In our ninth year of publication, we feature stories and projects focused on food, farm, family and craft from writers, crafters, designers, artists, illustrators, and storytellers from Maine and beyond. A fair visitor once told us, "Taproot is like Common Ground Fair in a magazine!" We hope we can bring a little bit of that fair spirit to you through the pages. Inside each issue you'll find seasonal recipes, stories of farm and community projects, features on artists and crafters, knitting, sewing, crochet or embroidery patterns, DIY inspiration, and more!
The Common Ground Country Fair was the very first public event at which we launched Taproot Magazine back in the fall of 2012! Not knowing what to expect, we were heartened and encouraged by the warm response to our new ad-free print magazine adventure from so many curious, thoughtful and engaging folks. Since then, our growing team has looked forward each year to the magic of the fair. It's a delight for us each year to see so many of the same faces as folks stop by to say hello (and renew!). While we will miss gathering in person this year, we look forward to seeing you online!
Here you'll find all singles issues from 2020 thus far, (SPARK, FORAGE, TIDES, CURE) and our brand new issue EXTEND, hot off the press! Plus some other Taproot goods. Visit our website to browse all available back issues and our collection of books, prints, and handmade goods.
Subscriptions and Renewals are available too, just like at the fair!
NOTE: If you typically renew at the fair, we recommend you contact us directly to make sure we can connect your renewal with your current account.
